The reason I became a certified health and wellness coach

Watching someone you love suffer through illness is life changing- and it was THE pivotal point in my life and in my own wellness journey. It changed my philosophy and outlook on what it means to be healthy. My mom was diagnosed with late stage ovarian cancer in 2014 and she succumbed to the disease in 2018, after a long, brutal, kickass fight. My father suffered a stroke the same year, just a few months earlier- and had already had two previous heart attacks a few years before that. Being surrounded by chronic disease I began to think of my own fate and longevity, since I do share their genes, however I was living a far healthier lifestyle than they were at the time. Throughout my mom’s sickness I began reading and researching all I could on what happens in the body to allow cancer to form-and through that knowledge grew an understanding that prevention of cancer through dietary choices, stress management and life style is in fact, possible. I also began to educate myself about heart disease- and in turn shared that knowledge with my father. He took ownership that his lifestyle was likely the main cause of his heart disease- the result of being overweight, sedentary, and an unhealthy eater. My dad began making small attainable changes with the knowledge I was sharing with him and he has since lost 60 pounds and kept it off for 6 years and counting.  He has even been able to decrease some of his medications.  These experiences led me to understand the role I could have in helping others make change that could positively impact their lives. That coupled with my mom’s death forced me to become intensely aware of the fragility of life- and how time is not guaranteed. I decided to enroll in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition a few months after my mom died and recently became nationally certified as a health and wellness coach. My mom is my inspiration and my family is my “why”, which has led me on my current path to empower others with knowledge and health to change their lives… from the inside out! #fromtheinsideout #healthcoach #healthcoachtips #healthcoachlife #eattherainbow #eatrealfood #exercise #movement #stressmanagement #healthyfood #healthylifestyle #myinspiration #missmymom #mybestfriend #family #mywhy
